Planning with Gratitude

The holidays are upon us! Now is the perfect time to get your home ready for stress-free celebrations - whether you’re hosting, planning for the future or just refreshing your space.

Take Stock of Your Home’s Comfort and Security: You can be grateful for the roof over your head that provides protection for your loved ones, and also think about long-term goals — equity in your home, plans for major renovations or repairs. Make sure the heating system is working properly and check for any loose rugs, handrails or electrical outlets that could be a hazard before the holiday rush.

Prepare Your Home for Overnight Guests or Treat Yourself: Freshen up the guest room with cozy flannel sheets and extra pillows. Adding a small bouquet of flowers, hand-lotion or water by the bed elevates their stay and sends a message that you’re grateful they are here!

Check for the Essentials: The heart of the holidays is undoubtedly the kitchen so make sure you have everything on hand for roasting, baking and serving. Check your cookware and utensils. Test your oven, refrigerator and dishwasher well in advance to ensure all are functioning at top performance. Consider an upgrade to present your home in the most effecient light.

Decorate Early: Whether you’re hosting a small family dinner or a large holiday party, setting the table and surroundings ahead of time will allow you to relax and enjoy the people gathered around on the big day. Get creative with your decor using natural seasonally-inspired centerpieces, festive candles and beautiful reusable tableware and linens.

While the holidays can be a time for reflection and gratitude for all that you have, it can also be a time to think about long-term goals. Does your home reflect your values? Are you in as close proximity to your family as you want to be? Enjoy the holidays AND start planning for your future!
